Our Curriculum |
Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of the Montessori approach, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rome in 1896, and was the first woman to practice medicine in Italy. As a physician, anthropologist and scientist, she brought a new perspective to the observation and study of human development.
The Montessori approach to education inspires children toward a lifelong love of learning, by following their natural developmental stages and tendencies. Children become confident, responsible, independent learners, who trust in their own abilities. Montessori Anakku offers your child a highly-recognised Montessori programme that focuses on seven key areas of learning and development. From building their language skills to nurturing their social understanding, we put together a series of lessons and outings that are designed to widen your child’s horizons. We prepare them for what is to come and what is to love in learning. |
Communication and Language
Using the phonetic reading approach, a strong foundation in reading and writing is developed. Children learn by using a multi-sensory method to recognise sounds and shapes of the alphabet. As children become fluent readers and writers, they can embark on creative writing and reading. Physical Development We do different play disciplines such as messy play, creative play, active play, physical play and more to make learning fun especially for toddlers. Play provides opportunities for active engagement and interaction with peers and surrounding. On top of that, play promotes healthy brain development and well-being. Personal, Social & Emotional Development These activities promote self-help skills such as dressing, pouring, spooning, wiping and introduce social etiquette that can develop focus, concentration, coordination, self-reliance and self-discipline. Literacy Young children learn sounds and letters through hand-eye work, concentration on practical activities as well as when they touch and recognize materials. Sensorial education allows children to make comparisons and find similarities in sizes, shapes, colours, textures, smells, tastes and sounds. These activities help them develop their intellect, enhance memory and increase the power of observation. Mathematics The Montessori practical life and sensorial activities give indirect preparations for mathematics. Concrete materials are used to introduce abstract concepts and give a sequential understanding of mathematical concepts which will prepare the child for later learning. Understanding the World Cultural Studies: Geography, History, Botany & Zoology Subjects such as Geography, History and Science help children discover the planet Earth, their world and the diversity in people and their cultures. Children will come to appreciate the beauty in nature, social harmony, tolerance and respect for multi-cultures as well as significance of past events that help shape the world we live in. Expressive Arts & Design We present masterpieces in music and visual arts to children. Our musical programme revolves around playing various musical instruments as well as rhythmic movement. In visual arts, children participate in art and craft activities as well as attend lessons on comparing realism with abstract art. Children express their talents in speech and drama as well as storytelling. |
